While away your days by the pool at one of our Tamariu villas of your choice, amble into town for a sumptuous meal, hit the beach, or explore the craggy, tree-covered landscape on foot or on the surface. That’s the essence of Tamariu, a delightful resort on Spain’s Costa Brava. The village is historically a fishing town, and some boats still bring in regular catches that end up on the tables of Tamariu’s splendid restaurants. Find out why our guests love this town so passionately.

Platja de Tamariu (Tamariu beach) at the foot of the town looks out onto a breathtaking natural harbour, where pleasure craft sit at anchor while they await their next adventures. The beach is modestly sized, but so is the village. That’s why it doesn’t get too crowded, especially as visitors spend much of their time swimming, paddle-boarding, windsurfing and enjoying the seafront hospitality. In fact there’s another tiny beach, Cala Aigua Dolça, just around the little outcrop to the east. It is stony rather than sandy, but serves as a quiet haven away from the bustle.

Tamariu’s perfect location

Tamariu is part of the Palafrugell municipality, along with Llafranc and Calella de Palafrugell. It’s about as far east as you can get on the Spanish mainland, beaten only by the Cap de Creus that juts out 20 kilometres to the north. 55 kms to the west is Girona, where the closest airport is located. Barcelona is about 130 kms away to the southwest, but you’re actually closer to the French border, which lies just 60 kms to the north.

The climate is just right for those who love the Spanish summer warmth but don’t want to swelter too much. Expect mid to high 20s Celsius in the summer months, and high teens in spring and autumn. The climate makes for a stunning blanket of trees, the pines and tamarisk (the latter of which gave the village its name) bringing a verdant beauty. The canopy acts as a natural parasol when you’re exploring the hillside, which can be a relief when you’re active and the sun is beating down.

As you’d expect of the Costa Brava, the coastline is craggy and sheer, punctuated by natural harbours, beaches and villages. You’re never far from a clifftop with commanding views of the tempting blue sea, dotted with craft of all sizes and people simply enjoying life among the waves. The sea is what attracts the majority of our guests, of course. There’s the thrill of diving and snorkelling in these crystal-clear waters, with caves and bays to explore.

Enjoying the area

The surrounding area is perfect for hiking, cycling or driving, whether you’re taking in the sights and the sea air or visiting one of the villages or small resorts close by. If you’re up for a half-hour walk (or a five-minute drive), Cala Pedrosa is a must-visit. It’s a hidden tree-lined cove that’s almost Cornish in nature, complete with a cute little restaurant serving local cuisine.

To the north, a 3km walk will take you to Aigua Blava, a stunning bay that sits halfway between the centres of Tamariu and Begur. It’s a natural harbour between two tall hills, similar to Tamariu’s, with five small beaches, in a slightly more lively area.

In truth, many of those who stay in one of our Tamariu villas never actually leave the town for the duration of their stay. Its narrow streets, relaxed pace, sensational cuisine and family-friendly atmosphere do make you wonder why you’d need to venture out. After all, you could eat at a different place every day for a fortnight – not bad for a town with a permanent population of about 300!

Our villas

We have just under 40 hand-picked villas in Tamariu, which can accommodate between four and 16 guests. Most of the properties have a pool and multiple bathrooms, some have sea views, and some are walking distance to Tamariu beach. Whatever your party is looking for, you’re guaranteed a relaxing and enjoyable stay.

Highlights include the two Filosia Apartments, which directly overlook Platja de Tamariu, so you really feel like you’re part of the hubbub of the seafront, day and night.

Villa Paz is up in the hills overlooking the tree-blanketed hills on one side and the Mediterranean on the other, with an immaculately kept garden to boot.

Villa Costa is a modern, sleek place with equally exceptional views. It’s just on the outskirts of town, making for a quieter stay, but you’re still no more than 1,500 metres from the beach.

Take a browse through our properties to find the one that resonates with you, and please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have anything to ask us. Wherever you and your family or friends choose to rest your heads, you’ll be captivated by the beauty and gentle vivacity of this unique village, a real gem of the Costa Brava.
