Large groups are the hardest thing to book well. Most agencies push you towards two smaller properties down the road from each other, or a villa that technically sleeps twelve but has everyone sharing one bathroom. Our Spanish villa collection includes properties genuinely built for extended families and groups of friends — bedrooms spread properly, pools big enough to matter, and living space that works when everyone's indoors at once.

What counts as a large villa

We treat ten as the threshold, though the number on the listing is only part of the picture. What matters more is how those ten sleep: whether the bedrooms are balanced or whether four of them are singles in the eaves, how many bathrooms there really are, and whether there's more than one sitting area for when half the group wants the football on and the other half doesn't.

Where our large villas are

Large properties are a smaller part of any collection, ours included, and they're not evenly spread. Here's what each region offers a group.

Costa Brava

The Costa Brava holds the largest share of our big properties, and Tamariu more than anywhere else — including the biggest villa in the collection, which sleeps sixteen. Begur and Llafranc carry more, generally set in their own grounds rather than on an urbanisation. It suits groups who want the villa to be the holiday — pool, terrace, long lunches — with a fishing village walkable for the evening.

Costa Blanca

Javea has a small number of large villas rather than a deep selection, so if the Costa Blanca is where you want to be, ask early. What it offers a group is variety beyond the villa itself — beaches, watersports and restaurants within a short drive, which matters when you're travelling with mixed ages and not everyone wants the same day. The Costa Blanca is also the most straightforward region to reach, with Alicante the nearest airport.

Mallorca

Around Cala d'Or you'll find the larger Mallorca villas, several within a few minutes of each other — useful if your group is big enough to need two properties, or if some of the party want their own space. Every one has a private pool.

Getting the sleeping arrangements right

The question that changes most bookings is who's sharing with whom. Two families of five need a different layout from ten adults, and three generations need a different one again — someone usually wants a ground-floor bedroom, and someone else wants to be as far from the children as the building allows.

Tell us the make-up of the group rather than just the headcount and we'll shortlist properties where the bedrooms work, not just ones where the total adds up.

Booking a large villa in Spain

Large villas book earliest. For July and August, groups with fixed school dates should be looking six to nine months ahead, and the biggest properties often go before Christmas for the following summer. If your dates are flexible, June and September give you the same weather with far more choice.
