How to make the most of Tamariu

If you’re looking for a laidback destination to head to on the Costa Brava, there’s a good chance Tamariu could have everything that you need. Tamariu is one of the most tranquil locations this part of the world has to offer. Part of the municipality of Palafrugell, it is close to popular coastal towns including Llafranc and Calella de Palafrugell.

Tamariu daily life

A perfect base for exploring the Costa Brava

Tamariu is an excellent place to stay when you want to explore the many coves and bays located in the region. There are many fantastic, warmly-welcoming coastal towns around the area town. The bay at Tamariu may be home to just a few houses, villas, apartments, restaurants and bars, but you won’t be far away from various faster-paced towns if you do want to mix things up once you arrive in the area. Nonetheless, the fact Tamariu is so quiet is a big part of why so many people decide to visit and even stay in the area permanently. Its beach has Blue Flag status.

Picturesque coves and bays

When you visit Tamariu, you’ll get the chance to enjoy fantastic Meditteranean cuisine, admire the gorgeous bays and coves and dip your toes in the beautiful crystal clear waters. In fact, the sea at Tamariu is some of the clearest that this region has to offer. Watersports are incredibly popular here, and the area is somewhat synonymous with diving. There is a diving centre in Tamariu.

Sunshine and relaxation

Tamariu offers glorious warm sunshine for the vast majority of the year. Although it can get hot, the temperature tends to be lowered by gentle breezes. Even in January, you can expect to enjoy a considerable number of bright, mild days. Tamariu has been popular with Catalans travelling up from Barcelona for many years and is widely agreed to have one of the most pleasant beaches in this part of the world. Many people enjoy lunch under the pine trees behind the beach before unwinding on the sand and taking a swim in the Mediterranean Sea.

Which towns are close to Tamariu?

Whilst you’re staying in Tamariu, you won’t be very far away from the charming town of Llafranc. This is an elegant, laidback town that has even attracted several Hollywood stars over the years. Some people even opt to walk from Tamariu to Llafranc, although this can take a few hours. It’s common for people to walk for one part of the journey and travel by taxi for the other.

The glorious aroma of palm trees permeates this area, and there are many highly rated seafood restaurants for you to choose from. If you do wish to stay in Tamariu but also wish to visit a wide range of bars and restaurants, you don’t need to travel very far to do so. Even so, there are a small handful of quality seafront restaurants in Tamariu. Each of these offers extremely fresh produce.

Where else should I visit whilst I’m in Tamariu?

Aside from Llafranc, there are many other great places to visit whilst you’re staying in Tamariu. You could head to the historic medieval town of Pals, or travel to the modestly-sized resort of Calella de Palafrugell. Some of the local area’s most renowned attractions include the San Sebastian Mountain and lighthouse, which offers truly spectacular views of the land and sea around you. Cap Roig Botanical Gardens and Castle should also be high on your list if you want to explore the wider area. If you want to venture further afield, it’s perfectly possible to reach Gerona and Barcelona within a few hours.

The wider Costa Brava region

The Costa Brava remains incredibly popular with tourists from across Europe and beyond for many reasons. Stretching from Barcelona to the Spanish-French border, it is regarded by many as the most beautiful holiday coast that Spain has to offer. Inevitably, there has been a considerable amount of development in some parts of the Costa Brava over the years, but you shouldn’t struggle too hard to find locations that seem barely untouched by tourism.

Head to the Costa Brava and you’ll find incredible seascapes, epic headlands, hiking paths that hug the coast and classic seaside towns with outstanding restaurants. The Costa Brava is also home to Girona, which plays host to an atmospheric medieval centre and some of Spain’s most acclaimed eateries. As you may expect, there are many fantastic art galleries and museums in the area. These include the Teatre-Museu Dalí, which is located in Figueres and is dedicated to surrealist icon Salvador Dali.
