Why you should consider Llafranc in 2022

Sun, Sand, and Sea: Exploring the Best Beaches of Costa Brava

Are you dreaming of an idyllic getaway to enjoy the warm sunshine, lie on tranquil beaches and maybe take a swim in calm, crystal clear waters? Dream no more, because the beaches of the Costa Brava are ready to turn your dreams into reality.

With the spectacular cliffs and sprawling natural landscapes, Costa Brava is the ultimate beach holiday destination for those who love to relax in picturesque surroundings. If you’re seeking an action-packed, exciting getaway, the vibrancy of Lloret will probably appeal to you. However, if your idea of the perfect holiday is to unwind and disconnect from the rest of the hectic world, Begur could be the place for your heavenly escape.

There are some stunning beaches along the Spanish coastline and Costa Brava boasts many of the best. Here are our top recommendations for the best beaches in Costa Brava:

Begur
If you are staying at a Spanish villa in Begur, be sure to spend at least a day or two at Sa Riera Beach. This is one of the larger beaches in the area, with golden sands enclosed by scenic greenery. Fishermen’s cottages lie to the side of the beach, hinting to the history of this enchanting cove. Sa Riera is a popular location for swimming and sunbathing, with a lovely beach bar to enjoy a drink whilst gazing at the idyllic surroundings. The beach also sits along the coastal trail, which is a gateway for those seeking a picturesque hike.

Blanes
Blanes sits in the southern part of Costa Brava, less than one hour’s drive from Barcelona. Its beach, Platja de Blanes stretches 650km along the coast and there is a small port and promenade for gentle strolls in the Spanish sun, overlooking the water. It is popular with families and is one of the more lively beaches in the area. If you’re looking for a good place to get lunch with spectacular views, try Restaurant and Lounge Club Es Blanc or Restaurant Club Vela Blanes. Just a short distance away Marimurtra Botanical Garden is a great attraction, or you can wander around the shops to pick up some traditional souvenirs.

Calella de Palafrugell
Another excellent choice for a beach day is Cala El Golfet, close to Calella de Palafrugell. Cala El Golfet is renowned for its scenic landscapes and tranquil atmosphere. If you prefer a quieter spot to sunbathe or relax with a good book, you’ll love this secluded beach nestled within pine forests. You can experience the unspoilt beauty of Costa Brava at this secret hideaway.

Llafranc
The quaint fishing village of Llafranc is another option for a blissful day of relaxing on the beach. Llafranc Beach boasts golden sands and clear waters, a must-visit for any snorkelling enthusiasts.  For those looking for a more active way to spend the day, you can hire watersports equipment for kayaking or paddle boarding and there is a great choice of restaurants and shops. For the foodies, we highly recommend dining at Casamar Restaurant, which has held a Michelin star for 10 consecutive years. The tasting menu is divine, and the panoramic views are just as good as the gastronomy – fine dining at its very best!

Lloret
If you are seeking a more lively day, head to Lloret for its expansive beach and bustling atmosphere. Lloret Beach is one of the best places for watersports activities and the sand is softer than many of the alternative, pebble beaches in the region. There is plenty to do along the promenade too, with lively bars with evening entertainment and excellent seafood and tapas dining options. You can relax by the waterfront with a cocktail or sangria, or see some of the historic buildings in the area, including the fascinating Castell de Sant Joan situated at the end of Lloret Beach.

Tamariu
One of Costa Brava’s best kept secrets is the tranquil setting of Tamariu Beach. Hidden amongst vast pine trees and cliffs, this beautiful sandy beach provides the perfect spot for quiet sunbathing and swimming, away from the busy crowds. While it is a considerably smaller beach resort than Lloret, there is still a great selection of restaurants and beach bars along the front. If you fancy a drink or food while gazing over the mesmerising sea, we recommend bar Rodondo or El Palanqui, but there are plenty more to try. You’ll be spoilt for choice for amazing seafood dishes in Tamariu.

Whichever type of beach day you prefer, Costa Brava has it all. From the exciting atmosphere and fun activities at Lloret to the quaint charm of Begur, when you book your Spanish villa in Costa Brava, you will be treated to some of the best beaches in Spain and beyond. After a day of unwinding or exhilarating fun at the beach, you can then head back to your stunning private Spanish villa to continue enjoying your holiday in style.
