Cala D’or has become an incredibly popular Majorca destination for families over recent years. Cala D’or is home to a wide range of family-friendly accommodation options, and there are plenty of things to keep young children entertained here. Home to seven secluded and serene coves, it’s home to a splendid marina where a host of luxury yachts drift in and out of the harbour and is largely free of the high-rise hotels you might associate with other parts of Mallorca.
Tranquil coves and larger beaches
The small coves of Cala D’or are sheltered by mountains and are home to clear blue waters as well as fine white sands. Cala Gran and Cala Llonga are amongst the largest beaches in the area and come complete with a host of fantastic facilities. Popular activities on these beaches include sailing, windsurfing, scuba diving and kite surfing. It’s also common for families to go horse riding, hire out pedaloes and embark upon glass-bottomed boat journeys. If you have the budget available, you could even hire out a luxury yacht.
There are buses in operation which resemble trains and will take you between the resort, the beaches and the marina. Perhaps you wish to take your family to a larger beach? If so, Es Trenc is just a half-hour bus ride away. The marina is home to exceptional restaurants and bar terraces, many of which are family-friendly.
Largely untouched by tourism
One of the main reasons why Cala D’or has become so popular with families is that it has managed to maintain its traditional Spanish charm over the years. Cala D’or is home to a series of picturesque whitewashed villas and is regarded as one of the most splendid resorts on the island of Majorca. Another great reason for staying in Cala D’or with your family is that it’s only a short drive from Palma International Airport, which is located around 40 miles away. Despite its growing popularity with tourists, Cala D’or has maintained much of its authentic charm. There is also a tourist road train which you can use to get to all of the local coves.
Shopping, nightlife and other facilities for kids
If you’re keen to embark upon a spot of retail therapy whilst you’re in the area, you could head to the pedestrian zone at Cala Gran. This is home to a host of shops where you can purchase a wide range of clothing items, holiday essentials, crafts and souvenirs. The area also plays host to several luxury boutiques. The nightlife in Cala D’or is a tad more subdued than it is in various other parts of Mallorca, though this is one reason why it has become so popular with families. Other great attractions for kids in Cala D’or include play areas, mini go-karts, inflatables and trampolines. Many of these facilities remain available into the evening.
