How to travel to Javea, Spain (Costa Blanca)

Javea: A Secret Gem on Spain’s Costa Blanca

If you haven’t heard of Javea, it is probably because it is a secret gem on Spain’s Costa Blanca. While locals and regular visitors to this part of Costa Blanca would list this as one of their favourite coastal towns in Costa Blanca, it isn’t as well-known as other resorts.

Lying along the eastern coast of Spain, and part of the Alicante province, the charm of Javea (or Xabia) is somewhat undiscovered by the wider population. If you are looking for a new holiday destination and you want to experience rich culture, amazing beaches and tantalising cuisine, it is time to explore the beauty of Javea.

These are some of the reasons we highly recommend a holiday in Javea:

Rich History

Unlike many other coastal towns that have been transformed to accommodate the swathes of tourists heading there each summer, Javea has preserved much of its historic charm. As you walk along cobbled streets and observe the impressive landmarks, you will get a taste of Javea’s fascinating history. The Church of San Bartolomé in the centre of the town is a stunning example of Gothic architecture dating back to the 14th century, while the archaeological museum is a great place to learn more about the rich history of Javea.

Stunning Natural Landscapes

For holidaymakers who love to explore the great outdoors, Javea is the perfect base for days of adventure. We recommend a visit to the Montgó Natural Park, which overlooks the town. This stunning nature park encompasses scenic hiking trails, the majestic Montgó mountain and countless plant species.

Enchanting beaches with breathtaking coastlines

The beautiful Javea coastline is a reason to visit in its own right. You will have plenty of choices for stunning beaches with breathtaking views of the spectacular, cliff-edged coastline. The top pick is probably Arenal Beach, where you will find golden sand and pristine waters. There are also a number of more secluded beach options, including Granadella and Cala Blanca. These beaches are both ideal spots for snorkelling to explore the Costa Blanca marine life.

Delicious Cuisine

For foodies, the cuisine in Javea is another significant draw to this wonderful destination. With fresh seafood in abundance, there are so many amazing restaurants to choose from. You can also find some of the best tapas food in the region in Javea. The region is also renowned for excellent wine, so wine connoisseurs might enjoy a day at one of the vineyards. It would be impossible to list all the fantastic restaurants but we like La Perla de Javea for seafood and paella, while Restaurante Calima is great for seafood and tapas dishes.

Cosmopolitan Culture

Javea benefits from a long history of expats moving to this part of the world, bringing diverse cuisine and creating a multicultural atmosphere. The international influences are evident in the shops, events and restaurants, creating a blend of cultures and a vibrant atmosphere in the town.

Festivals and Events

Throughout the year, you will find a calendar of exciting events taking place in and around Javea. The “Bous a la Mar” festival held in August provides a one-of-a-kind experience as bulls are guided onto the beach. The Fogueres de Sant Joan in June is another exciting festival with fireworks and parades, marking the beginning of summer.
