The history of Javea
Javea is the oldest known Roman site on the coast of Spain. It was initially discovered and inhabited over 30,000 years ago. It has been home to peoples from the Stone and Bronze Ages alongside Romans, Greeks, Phoenicians and many more. The town’s port was used by Roman boats, and it’s thought that Romans could have been based in the area from the 2nd century BC.
More about Javea
The town has three main areas. These are the beach area, the port and the old town. One of the reasons the old town is so well-known is that it hasn’t changed remarkably over the years and has therefore maintained many of its original features, including its gothic windows and wrought-iron balconies. If you want to dine whilst admiring the sea, you can do so at one of the many restaurants and bars you’ll see dotted around the harbour and fishing port. You’ll find Valencia Airport around 100km to the north and Alicante Airport 100km to the south. If you’re willing to travel a little further, you can get to Murcia Airport rather easily. If you want to get to Valencia or Benidorm via train, you can head to the station at Gata De Gorgos, which is located near Javea.
